The Girl Ann Youth Project

The Girl Ann Program for Emotional Literacy (4th-8th grades) is a guided study program that teaches emotional literacy, physical fitness, and awareness techniques through meteorology, aspects of geometry, animal care and the creative arts. The program stands alone or can be used to integrate with other curricula and/or as an elective. While aspects of this program are useable in public school, the entire program is most powerful in a Home Schooling or informal setting such as road trips and family vacations.

Meet Girl Ann, the Emotionally Literate Dog

The Girl Ann Program developed as Girl Ann, an "at-risk" dog, worked with "at-risk" children on a personal mission to get them through school emotionally and physically. Many children were able to identify with her story of pain and courage. She set the example of how to get through difficult situations. Girl Ann and the emotional literacy program that developed around her helped kids get through school, improve their grades and stay drug-free.

The Story of Girl Ann: Story Book and Activity Guide

The true story of Girl Ann Wagger is a verbal-linguistic emotional literacy teaching tool that shows children how to ride the waves of their lives skillfully. The story uncovers a variety of life situations that kids can identify with, and gives them a vocabulary with which to discuss their own feelings. Through reading, discussion and activities guided by adults, children learn these vital concepts and naturally begin to demonstrate emotionally literate behaviors. They learn how to treat others well, which reduces power struggles and improves interpersonal relationships. The set includes brightly illustrated story pages, and a lesson plan for talking points. The Girl Ann Workbook

The Girl Ann Workbook is the first part of a series of five workbooks sponsored by the Coalition for Emotional Literacy. Each segment uses storytelling, interactive games, analysis and synthesis activities, and innovative projects to enhance participants' academic and personal wellness. Facilitators (teachers, counselors, and/or parents) realize that these Whole Brain Techniques engage all participants no matter what the age and anchor information and positive behaviors three to ten times faster than ordinary methods.
